Love Yourself

Valentine’s Day got me thinking a lot about love. While Valentine’s Day is centered all around loving other people, it got me thinking just how important it is to love yourself. If you live your life relying on other people’s love to feel better, you will constantly find yourself feeling insecure and looking for peoples assurance. It feels good to experience love from someone else, but don't rely on it to feel good about yourself. No one else can tell you your worth.

Loving my body has been something I have struggled with my entire life. I have always been the “bigger” girl. Even when I lost the weight, I never had the “perfect” body (or as I should say “ideal” body). Today’s society defines a girl’s beauty by how big her boobs are, how big her butt is, how small her waist is, etc. That is exactly why I think girls have such a hard time loving their bodies, because they are constantly being told what they SHOULD look like when they are perfect the way they are. We all have parts of our body that we don't like and are insecure about, but you have to realize that those are things we should love the most about ourselves. Our outward appearance, by no means, should determine the love we have for ourselves.

"You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you." - Song of Solomon 4:7

When you actually think about ALL of the things our body does for us it’s crazy to think that we could actually hate them. For one, it keeps us breathing, our heart beating and our blood pumping. It lets us hear, smell, taste, talk, etc. Obviously none of that would be possible without God, but when you think about it, our bodies do amazing things for us everyday! We should reward them by loving them in return!

Loving yourself may not be easy but it will come with time! Once you learn to love yourself, you will look at life in a totally different way!
